8 Common Botox myths busted
“Google it!” For even the simplest of doubt that we have in our mind, we quickly want to Google it and know more about it. And when we actually “Google it”, it leaves us with more doubts that we had before we read anything about it. Here, I get many patients who consult me for anti-ageing solutions and come up with very weird things that they have read online about Botox or dermal fillers. These are just Myths about Botox.
Well here are a few that I would like to share with you and explain how they are just myths about Botox:
MYTH #1: Botox will take the expressions right of your face and make you look like a zombie.
FACT: Not only will Botox make you look good and younger, but it will also allow you to still express emotions – Especially happy emotions. Angry emotions that cause furrowing of the brow will diminish with botox.
MYTH # 2: Botox is same as the Dermal Fillers
FACT: Botox & Dermal Fillers both lessen the appearance of wrinkles, however, both function in different ways. Botox relaxes the muscles that creates wrinkles, where as dermal fillers restores & adds volume, make you look more youthful.
MYTH # 3: Botox injections are toxic to the body
FACT: A good & reputed doctor will never inject or prescribe something to you that might be dangerous to your body. Botox is safe for your body, when administered in the right amount of dose.
MYTH # 4: Botox Injections are Painful
FACT: While the procedure isn’t completely without discomfort, the pain from Botox is completely manageable. Botox is a quick procedure with little to no downtime.
MYTH # 5: Your body will get addicted to Botox like drugs.
FACT: With Botox, you will feel good about your appearance and would want to always look good, and would opt for Botox again, but it is impossible to be physically addicted to Botox. You can stop getting injections whenever you want without negative side effects.
MYTH # 6: Botox is a Dangerous Poison. It is a synthetic, dangerous material.
FACT: Botox is a neurotoxin derived from Clostridium botulinum, an organism found in the natural environment where it is largely inactive and non-toxic. It is completely safe when used in proper doses.
MYTH # 7 Botox travels through your body and will infect everything.
FACT: Botox is designed to have localized diffusion, and doesn’t move much further than about a centimetre.
MYTH # 8 Botox is Permanent
Botox typically lasts for 3-6 month.
